The Atlanta Falcons are the latest team to jump into the Asante Samuel sweepstakes and have been negotiating with the Eagles in a trade for the cornerback, a source close to the situation confirmed Tuesday. FoxSports.com first reported the Falcons-Eagles talks. The hangup with getting a deal done again isn’t over compensation. The Eagles were in discussions with Denver last week, but the 31-year-old Samuel balked at the Broncos’ request to restructure his contract.

The Atlanta Falcons won’t be afraid to trade up in this week’s NFL draft, despite having just six picks and none in the first round, general manager Thomas Dimitroff told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Casserly: Second-round steals Last year, Dimitroff handed the Cleveland Browns five picks to vault up the board and snag wide receiver Julio Jones with the sixth overall selection. That leaves the Falcons without first- and fourth-round picks (which went to the Browns) in this year’s draft.
